Permit Questions


Do I need to have a permit to drive with an instructor?

Yes, if you age 16 to 17 you must have completed the classroom portion of your Driver’s Education or Parent Taught Program and obtained a Class C Permit with a ‘BF’ Restriction from TX DPS.

Adults Only: If you are 18 & up with a permit, please contact Drive2u to get a Same Day Road Test. If you are age 18+, you must have taken the 6 hour adult class or taken a written test online or at the TX DPS and obtained a Class C Permit with a ‘B’ Restriction.

Drive2u will also help anyone with a disability with hand controls. We use a portable Handicap Hand Controls Product that also comes with a steering knob, so you can easily handle the wheel with one hand while operating the hand control device with your other hand.


Do I need to practice driving on my own time in addition to my drive time with Drive2u? 

Yes, it is preferred that you practice on your own. If you do not practice, you will not learn the skills necessary to master driving safely on the roads. We recommend you practice as much as possible on your own time (with a permit).

*Teens must drive with a licensed driver over the age of 21 at all time while in the front seat of the vehicle. Required by Law.



When can I take the driving test? 

Only applies to teens age 16-24 who have completed the behind the wheel phase II. If 
you are age 18-25 with a permit, please contact me to get a road test within 16 days with a Licensed Driving School. If you are attending a teen driver education course/Parent Taught Course and have a Permit & held your permit for the 6 month hold date on the back of your permit-----Then you may take the driving test at the Department of Public Safety (DPS) or with a Licensed School that is authorized to Administer Road Test. Please contact me for further details. Only applies to teens age 16-18 who have completed the behind the wheel phase II.


Can you help me if I fail the written test? 

Yes, we can help.  Any student who has taken the written test at the DPS and have failed, Drive2u can offer several options please contact me to discuss easier options to better serve your needs.


May I rent your car to take the DPS Driving Test?  

Yes, you must have a confirmation from DPS stating your date & time. Please contact me to schedule this test. There will be a car usage fee-see payments. * * * Drive2u will only allow one rental use for your DPS road test. You may rent the Drive2u Car for another Test. Fee is non-refundable if you 'FAIIL'. * * *



Scheduling Questions

 How do I schedule my driving times?
 Drive times are always available. Please schedule online or call/email/text Drive2u. 
Remember you must cancel your drive time 24 hours in advance. ***NO REFUNDS***

If I am scheduled for a drive time, how do I know if my drive time has been cancelled due to inclement weather?

Drive2u will notify you in advance. Please feel free to call/email/text Drive2u.


How quickly can I drive?
Generally, you can get 1-Hour Drive within the first week. You may schedule online or if there is a specific day that you need, please feel free to contact Drive2u to discuss. 


 Can I re-schedule or cancel my drive time with my instructor?
 YES--Remember you must cancel your drive time 24 hours in advance. ***NO REFUNDS*** This will allow you to reschedule to another day and time. If you call/email/text Drive2u, I will try to find a day and time that would work better for you without forfeiting your payment.

You are allowed up to 2 reschedule/cancellations before forfeiting a 1 hour drive time. If you have an emergency, Drive2u will make considerations in in rescheduling your appointment.



Road Test Questions:


Can Drive2u administer the TX DPS ROAD TEST?

No, However we do use a Third Party Testing Site for a small convenience fee & quicker than the DPS?  Please call/email/text the Drive2u Instructor to see if you may be eligible to take a DPS Road Test with a 3rd Party Examiner. 


To Qualify for Third Party Skills Testing (TPST) authorized school
In order to test with a 3rd Party Skills Testing (TPST) authorized school you must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age, have held a valid learner license for a minimum of six months, completed an approved Teen or Parent Taught Driver Education in its entirety and completed the Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) course

  • Be 18-24 years of age, have completed the adult driver education course in its entirety and have a restricted driver license and completed the Impact Texas Young Drivers (ITYD) program 

  • Be 25 years of age or older and have a restricted driver license and completed the Impact Texas Young Drivers (ITYD) program 

ITD is available through the Texas Department of Public Safety's Impact Texas Drivers website.

Miscellaneous Questions


What kind of cars do you use for the driving instruction?

We use 2016 Ford Focus. Our cars are equipped with automatic transmissions, dual-brake systems, additional rear view mirrors on the instructor’s side and Student Driver signs to warn the public (just kidding…)

Drive2u will also help anyone with a disability with hand controls.


Are your instructors state certified? 

Yes, I am certified thru the Texas Department of License Regulations (TDLR) in Austin, Texas. I am a TA-Full Licensed Instructor meaning I can teach in a driver’s education licensed school or classroom and Instruct in Car. I have received thorough background check and fingerprints by DPS.


Do you offer gift certificates? 

Yes, we do. You will receive a certificate with the student’s name and number of drive times purchased. Call today!
